Eight people died and 25 others were injured after a private bus overturned near Palankalli in Tumkur district on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Karnataka on Friday registered 106 fresh Covid-19 cases and five virus-related deaths. The state’s active cases tally stood at 2,013.

As many as 2,262 fire incidents have been reported in Karnataka’s forests in the past two months. The Forest Department has received 4,234 fire alerts in January and February alone. However, the number of incidents was 2,323 across the state last year during the same period.

The state’s education minister said that the matter of introducing Bhagavad Gita in schools will be discussed with the chief minister and textbook committee members.
“The Bhagavad Gita has been read by people for many years in this country. The Gita is read by everyone and the book is translated into all languages across the world. To improve the morale of students, we will discuss this with the academicians and experts first,” Primary and Secondary Education Minister BC Nagesh said on Friday.
Bengaluru Urban district reported 84 fresh infections on Friday. Other districts saw fresh cases too: six in Dakshina Kannada, three in Chitradurga, and two each in Bengaluru Rural, Chikkamagaluru, Mysuru and Dharwad. The positivity rate for the day was 0.29 per cent and the case fatality rate was 4.71 per cent.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday said he would meet Union Water Resources Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat to press the Centre to resolve water disputes related to the Mekedatu balancing reservoir, Mahadayi water project and Upper Krishna Project. Bommai said he would, if needed, lead an all-party delegation from Karnataka to meet Shekhawat in the coming weeks.
He said the State would not agree to inter-linking of Godavari, Krishna, Cauvery and Pennar unless the allocation of water and the river basins was finalised. ‘After the Assembly session, I will visit Delhi and discuss all inter-State water disputes such as Mekedatu, Mahadayi and Upper Krishna Project with Jalshakti Minister Shekhawat. I will apprise political parties in Karnataka about the outcome of our meeting,’ he told reporters after chairing an all-party meeting.
Karnataka Water Resources Minister Govind Karjol, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, JD(S) leader Bandeppa Kashempur, Opposition Congress leader in the Karnataka Legislative Council B K Hariprasad, former water resources ministers D K Shivakumar, M B Patil and H K Patil were among those who attended the meeting, as reported by PTI.
Eight people died on Saturday after a bus toppled in the Tumkur district of Karnataka. The deceased were travelling in a private bus heading towards Pavagada.
