Tax cut on fuel will depend on state’s finances: Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai
Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday said the government will take a call on slashing sales tax on petrol and diesel after assessing the state’s finances. On Wednesday, the price of petrol in Bengaluru stood at 111. 09 per litre and diesel retailed at Rs 94. 79 per litre.

The Karnataka government had reduced sales tax on petrol from 35% to 25. 9% and that on diesel from 24% to 14. 3%, which in real terms meant a reduction of Rs 13. 5 and Rs 19. 5 respectively per litre on the two fuels. But this relief was shortlived since it was offset by a rise in the base price of the fuels. Since sales tax is ad valorem in nature, it moves up or down in proportion to the base price.

Kumaraswamy slams Ajay Devgn amid Hindi language row

  • Just because a large population speaks Hindi, it doesn’t become a National Language. Less than 9 States, Kashmir-Kanyakumari, have Hindi as 2nd, 3rd language or not even that. This being situation what is the truth in Ajay Devgan’s statement? What do you mean by not to dub?

  • From the beginnig, ‘Hindi’ based political parties in the Centre have been making efforts to destroy regional languages. Congress which started surprising regional languages is being continued by the BJP.
  • Devgan must realise that Kannada cinema is outgrowing Hindi film industry. Because of encouragement by Kannadigas Hindi cinema has grown. Devgan shouldn’t forget that his first movie ‘Phool aur Kaante’ ran for a year in Bengaluru.

As Hindi row flares up, Kumaraswamy calls Ajay Devgn’s behaviour ludicrous
After Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn and multilingual film actor Kichcha Sudeep engaged in ‘argument’ on Twitter on the topic of whether Hindi is a national language or not, former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy has called Ajay Devgn’s behaviour ludicrous.

“Actor Kiccha Sudeep saying that Hindi is not a National Language is correct. There is nothing to find fault in his statement. Actor Ajay Devgn is not only hyper in nature but also shows his ludicrous behaviour. Like Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam & Marathi, Hindi is also one of languages. India is a garden of several languages. Land of multi cultures. Let there be no attempts to disrupt this,” said Kumaraswamy in a series of tweets.
