Witnessing a further surge in daily Covid-19 cases, Karnataka on Monday reported 1,290 fresh infections and 5 deaths, taking the count to 30,10,847 and the death toll to 38,351. Of the new cases, 1,041 were from Bengaluru Urban, as the city saw 134 discharges and 3 deaths.

Karnataka minister, Congress MP get into fight at Ramanagara event in presence of CM Bommai
In a dramatic turn of events at a public function in Karnataka’s Ramanagara, Congress Bangalore Rural MP DK Suresh and State Minister Dr CN Ashwathnarayan got into an altercation on stage over some development work, in presence of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Monday.At the event organized by the government, Bommai had unveiled the statues of Dr B R Ambedkar and Bengaluru founder Kempegowda. It was his first visit to Ramanagara after becoming chief minister. (PTI)
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai asked the officials to be extra vigilant in the districts bordering Maharashtra. Speaking to reporters, CM Bommai said, “I have directed officials to be extra vigilant in districts like Belagavi, Vijayapura bordering Maharashtra, where cases are witnessing a surge…People should follow guidelines and avoid creating a situation that may force the government to impose lockdown.” (ANI)
Omicron: Karnataka reports 10 new cases on Sunday
Karnataka reported 10 new cases of Omicron on Sunday, taking the tally to 76, said state health minister K Sudhakar. He tweeted on Monday, “Ten new cases of Omicron have been confirmed in Karnataka on Jan 2nd taking the tally to 76: Bengaluru: 8 cases (of which 5 are international travellers) and Dharwad: 2 cases.” Bengaluru reported eight cases of Omicron on Sunday.
