PM Narendra Modi is in Karnataka to inaugurate the festival at the Railway Sports Ground in Hubbali in the presence of Karnataka Governor Thgaawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Union ministers Anuraj Singh Thakur and Pralhad Joshi, and others.
The roadshow in Hubbali is organised on National Youth Day which is observed every year on the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. The official statement by the Prime Minister’s Office said the National Youth Festival is held annually to provide exposure to the talented youth of the country at the national level and galvanise them towards nation-building.
The 26th National Youth Festival is organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with the Karnataka government and the five-day-long event continues till January 16 at Hubballi-Dharwad.
If reports are to be believed, more than 30,000 youth are expected to attend the inaugural function. Reports also said the five-day-long programmes will be live streamed and will be celebrated as Green Youth Festival.

Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is serving a sentence for rape and murder in Rohtak’s Sunaria Jail, was granted 40-day parole, the police said on Friday.
According to reports, the paperwork for his parole is yet to be completed and he is likely to be released today, Saturday.
The police reports said that Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is in Sunaria prison in Rohtak district, has been granted a 40-day parole. The paperwork is yet to be completed. He is likely to be released from prison on January 21.
This is the second time when the Dera Sacha Sauda chief had asked for parole of 40 days to attend a programme. Earlier, in October 2022, he was out on parole for 40 days.
Haryana Jail Minister Ranjit Singh Chautala on Friday said that the Dera chief’s family have submitted an application to the jail authorities seeking month-long parole for Ram Rahim on his behalf. It will be decided by the court and commissioner for how many days he will get parole and where will he stay during this time.
Notably, the Dera chief was also granted parole before the Haryana panchayat election and Adampur Assembly bypoll were conducted. He was granted a month-long parole on June 17.
The Dera Sacha Sauda chief has been jailed since 2017 in Haryana’s Sunaria jail, where he is serving a 20-year term for raping his two women followers at his ashram’s headquarters in Sirsa. Singh was granted three weeks’ furlough, earlier in February.
A furlough is a brief temporary release of prisoners from jail, whereas parole refers to the release of a prisoner either temporarily for a specified purpose or totally before the expiration of a sentence, on the promise of good behaviour.
In August 2017, a special CBI court in Panchkula found him guilty of raping two of his devotees.
According to the High Court of Punjab and Haryana’s 2003 rulings, the CBI had opened an inquiry into a case that had previously been filed at Police Station Sadar in Kurukshetra.
According to the allegations, Ranjit Singh, a native of the Haryana village of Khanpur Kolian in the Kurukshetra district, was murdered on July 10, 2002, as he was tending to his fields.
Following an extensive investigation, the CBI submitted a charge sheet in 2007 against six defendants, charges were made in 2008, and on October 8, 2021, the court found Rahim and four other defendants guilty of the murder of former Dera manager Ranjit Singh.

The ongoing wrestlers’ protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi has come to an end following a meeting between the Sports Minister and the wrestlers held on Friday late night.
Post-meeting, the wrestlers announced to end their protest. Along with this, a committee has been formed which will submit its report in 4 weeks. Until the investigation is completed, the probe committee will look after the work of the Wrestling Federation of India. Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the current president of the wrestling association, will step aside from the work of the association till the investigation is completed and will cooperate in the investigation.

In the first step to resolve the grievances of the wrestlers, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who came under attack, has been removed from the post of President. Other wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, Banjrag Punia, Sakshi Malik and Ravi Dahiya decided to end their strike after the deadlock was resolved in the second round of talks with Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur.
Notably, the wrestlers had accused the members of Wrestling Federation of India and its president of sexual harassment and corruption.
Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said after the marathon meeting, it has been decided to form a monitoring committee whose names will be announced on Saturday itself. This committee will complete the investigation in four weeks. This committee will seriously investigate all allegations of corruption or of sexual harassment against the WFI and its president.
Anurag Thakur further said that till the completion of the investigation, he (Singh) will abstain from the responsibilities of the post of president and will cooperate in the investigation, while the day-to-day work of WFI will be looked after by the monitoring committee.
At the same time, after a late night marathon meeting with Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, wrestler Bajrang Punia said that the Sports Minister listened to our demands and assured proper investigation. He thanked him with a hope that there will be a fair investigation in this matter, so for the time being the wrestlers had withdrawn their protest.
Notably, earlier in the day on Friday, a seven-member committee was formed by the Indian Olympic Association to investigate the allegations of sexual exploitation against Wrestling Federation of India President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The members of this committee also include Mary Kom, Yogeshwar Dutt, Dola Banerjee, Alaknanda Ashok, Sahdev Yadav and two lawyers.
