Vastu expert Chandrashekhar ‘Guruji’ alias Chandrashekhar Virupaksha Angadi who was killed in a hotel in Hubballi on July 5, 2022.
‘Sarala Vastu’ expert Chandrashekhar ‘Guruji’ alias Chandrashekhar Virupaksha Angadi, who had set up offices across Karnataka and neighbouring States, was murdered in broad daylight in the lobby of a private hotel in Hubballi on Tuesday. Acting swiftly, the Hubballi police, with the help of the Belagavi police, nabbed the accused in the neighbouring Belagavi district.
The accused have been identified as Mahantesh Shirol and Manjunath Marewad.
According to the police, the murder took place around 12 noon. Two persons, who reportedly posed as Mr. Chandrashekhar’s followers, stabbed him multiple times in the hotel lobby and fled. The incident was caught on the hotel’s CCTV camera. The footage shows the accused stabbing Mr. Chandrashekhar multiple times and then threatening the hotel staff with knives when they tried to rush to his rescue. Mr. Chandrashekhar was staying in the hotel for the last few days and the assailants attacked him when he entered the lobby.
The accused reportedly worked for Mr. Chandrashekhar earlier and had reportedly quit the job following a dispute over business deals.
The two accused were traced with the help of their mobile phone location and nabbed near Ramdurg in Belagavi district. The police suspected that they would try to escape to Maharashtra via Belagavi district. Police Commissioner Labhu Ram informed Belagavi Superintendent of Police (SP) Sanjay Patil, who alerted officers along the Karnataka-Maharashtra border. The vehicle of the accused was subsequently intercepted on the State highway connecting Belagavi and Raibag road.
Belagavi police officers confirmed that the accused were not using the national highway. They found they were using a State highway and other routes to escape to Maharashtra.
Deputy SP Ramanagouda Hatti came up with a “trapezium plan” to stop the accused. It involved stationing personnel and vehicles in such a way that the accused would have no way to escape. Two earthmovers were placed on the roads at a distance and two tractors were stopped by the roadside. A police van and two four-wheelers were stationed at strategic points. A dozen police personnel in plain clothes were at multiple points on bikes. A team of officers chased the suspect’s car from a distance, while a vehicle coming from the opposite direction stopped them. The accused eventually surrendered when they had no way out.
“We were able to overpower them after chasing them for some distance. The accused surrendered when they knew that they had no way to run,” said Mr. Hatti. His team included I.R. Pattanashetty, Shivanand Karjol, and around 20 personnel. Assistant Commissioner of Police from Hubballi Vinod Kumar Muktedar and others coordinated with them in nabbing the accused.
According to Mr. Labhu Ram, the motive for the murder is not clear yet.
Mr. Chandrashekhar was a native of Motagi Galli in Bagalkot town and one of the six children of Virukapashappa and Neelavva Angadi. After completing his engineering course from Basaveshwara Engineering College, Bagalkot, he had gone to Mumbai three decades ago.
Having initially begun his career as a construction engineer, he subsequently went on to become a “vastu expert” and founded C.G. Parivar through which he advocated what he called ‘Sarala Vastu’, which won him fame across Karnataka and Maharashtra. Following the exponential popularity of ‘Sarala Vastu’, he set up offices at various places and launched his own info-entertainment television channel. However, of late, he had faced problems with some of his employees raising voices against irregular pay and other issues.
